For Fun and Profit.

Blame it on gnomes. Everything's their fault, anyway.

Hooray for word processing. Here's the gold, mates.

Earthbound (Mother 2)
Earthbound is an RPG unlike any other. This is one of those games you really like or really hate. I really liked it. There are several redeeming factors to the game, but I'm going to start with its downfalls. The biggest one is that the graphics downright SUCK. The animations in the battle sequences are a joke. The second shortcoming is that the battle system needed work, though it still wasn't totally bad. However, the storyline and characters, both npc's and party members, are superb. It takes place in present day and stars a young boy named Ness who embarks on a journey to save the world from an evil alien lord named Giygas at the request of a super-intelligent bumblebee from the future. Oh, and he suddenly has powerful psychic abilities that have lain dormant inside of him for his entire life. Sounds fun, huh? Along the way he meets 3 other friends: Paula, a pretty girl from the neighboring town with the same strange psychic ablities; Jeff, a boy genius; and Poo (yes, Poo), an oriental prince skilled in martial arts. The game also has the one thing all rpg's seem to be missing: Bathrooms (although they are always occupied). You need to play this game for yourself and play it for a while before you decide you don't like it.

Homeworld

If there's one thing I suck at, it's RTS games. That being the case, I usually don't play them. However, Relic's Homeworld is a masterpiece among masterpieces. I actually sat down to play this game. Now, I didn't get far, because this game is HARD; not just for me, mind you. I mean, people who play these things have a hard time with this game. The first thing most people notice is that, unlike most RTS's, this game is played on a three-dimensional plane. Now, hey, how do you make ships move in three dimensions with a two-dimensional mouse interface? Well, actually, Homeworld manages to accomplish this with minimal trouble. Another key point (for me at least) was that Yes did the music for the game, which is awesome. If you like RTS's, you need to get this one. If you don't, borrow it and click around until you screw yourself over, like me.
